Short version: the product you knew as Maziko is now called Homedays. Same app, same company, same prices. Old links redirect. If you have the app installed, you do not need to do anything.
How we got here
In July we renamed from Oiko to Maziko. Oiko was a nod to the Greek word for home, but nobody could spell it from hearing it, and a family calendar gets recommended out loud, at the school gate. Maziko was easy to say and easy to type, and we liked it.
Then we searched the name once more and Google’s summary led with what it means in Swahili. Maziko is a burial. Not a funeral in the loose sense, the actual burial. We checked with speakers and dictionaries, and it was right. A calendar for the days your children spend at each home should not carry that word, even if few people would notice. So we went back to the list.
Why Homedays
This time we set one rule. The name had to say what the product shows. Open the app and what you see is the days: whose week it is, which nights are at which home, when the handover is, what travels with the child. The days at each home. Home days. It is not clever, and that is the point. Nobody will need it explained, and nobody will need to look it up.
What changes
Nothing that matters:
- The company is still Redspa Limited, a UK company you can look up on the about page.
- The product is the same, with the same features and the same free-for-everyone-you-invite pricing.
- Every old maziko.app link redirects to the same page on homedays.app. Bookmarks keep working.
- The app updates itself. The new name and icon arrive on their own. There is no reinstall.
If something from the old name slipped through, an email footer, a screenshot, a page title, tell us at hello@oiko.app and we will fix it.
That is the last rename. Three names in a year is two too many, and we would rather spend the next year on the calendar.
